đ´ This marks the shipâs first time sailing regularly from Texas.
A new cruising option is coming to the Texas coast! Carnival Cruise Line has revealed that Carnival Sunshine will begin homeporting in Galveston starting November 2027, marking the shipâs first time operating regular sailings from the island.
This move is part of Carnivalâs updated 2027â2028 deployment strategy and will significantly boost Galvestonâs cruise capacity. With room for roughly 3,000 passengers, Carnival Sunshine will bring thousands of additional travelers each week to Caribbean itineraries departing from Texasâright as demand for Galveston cruises continues to soar.
Sunshine will offer 4â10 day Caribbean cruises.
Shorter trips: stops in Mexico (Cozumel, Progreso).
Longer voyages: ports in Belize, Celebration Key, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, Amber Cove (Dominican Republic), LimĂłn (Costa Rica), ColĂłn (Panama), Isla Tropicale (RoatĂĄn), Grand Cayman, Montego Bay (Jamaica).
Eight new sailings confirmed, including a 10-day cruise to Cozumel, Isla Tropicale, Montego Bay, and Grand Cayman.
Carnival Spirit will shift to Tampa instead of Galveston.
Spirit will sail 6â8 day Caribbean itineraries with stops in Belize, Isla Tropicale, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Cozumel, and Progreso.
Includes six Panama Canal sailings and a 13-day Carnival Journeys cruise in January 2028 visiting Aruba, Curaçao, and more.
đ Why It Matters
Galveston is now one of the busiest cruise homeports in the U.S..
The move expands Texas cruise capacity while also opening longer Caribbean itineraries from Tampa.
Carnival frames this as a win-win for both ports: more options for travelers without needing to fly out of state.
