Carnival Cruise Line is making a meaningful impact during World Autism Acceptance Month with an exciting milestone. Its highly anticipated private destination, Celebration Key, has officially become the first cruise destination in the world to receive sensory inclusion certification from KultureCity.
With more than two million guests expected to visit Celebration Key, this achievement highlights Carnival’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive, enjoyable experiences for all travelers—especially families and individuals with sensory sensitivities.
For the past six years, Carnival has worked closely with KultureCity, a globally recognized nonprofit dedicated to improving accessibility for individuals with invisible disabilities such as autism, PTSD, dementia, and sensory processing disorders. Through this partnership, Carnival continues to raise the bar for inclusivity across the cruise industry.
At Celebration Key, over 400 guest-facing team members have received specialized training to better support guests with sensory needs. Visitors will also have access to complimentary sensory bags, which include noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, and light-filtering glasses designed to minimize overstimulation.
Additionally, each sensory bag includes a VIP lanyard featuring discreet symbols to signal to staff that extra assistance may be needed. A feelings thermometer is also provided, allowing non-verbal guests to communicate their emotions more easily.
“This achievement reflects our dedication to making vacations welcoming and accessible for everyone,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “By equipping our team and offering thoughtful resources both onboard and at Celebration Key, we’re ensuring every guest feels supported and included.”
This certification builds on Carnival’s broader efforts across its fleet, including training onboard crew members and shoreside call center staff who assist guests throughout the booking process.
“True inclusivity means understanding and preparing for every guest’s needs before they even arrive,” said Uma Srivastava, executive director of KultureCity. “With Celebration Key, Carnival is setting a new industry benchmark—making it possible for individuals with sensory needs to fully enjoy their travel experience.”
